About Natalie

Hearthstone Counseling

HellNatalie Wardo! I’m Natalie. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW,) practicing in Plattsburgh, New York. I provide therapy for children, teens, young adults and families. I also love to lead therapy groups. I am grateful to be in a position to help others overcome and heal from their challenges. I have always known what I wanted to do with my life and I consider it an honor and a privilege to be a part of people’s lives in this way.

I specialize in child, adolescent and family therapy. I utilize a number of treatment approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution-focused therapy, play therapy, sandplay, family systems, motivational interviewing and mindfulness. The type of treatment we do together will depend on the age and developmental level of the child or teen and the specific needs that brought you to therapy. Through experience I’ve learned that a family-based approach to treatment is extremely important. In most cases parents and other family members may be asked to participate in treatment.

I grew up and attended college in Chicago, IL. After receiving my bachelor’s degree in psychology and social welfare from Mundelein College (Loyola), I worked for ten years with at-risk kids as an outreach counselor, a child advocate, and as a caseworker.  I received my masters of social work (MSW) from the University of Vermont in 1998 with a concentration in children and families. Since then I have provided therapy and consulting in a wide range of settings including: homes, schools, agencies, inpatient behavioral health and private practice.

I have two grown sons and for most of the years I was raising them I was a single parent. Although I loved my own parents and realized they did they best they could when they were raising my siblings and me, I knew I wanted to raise my children differently, so I learned as much as I could about behavior management and positive parenting practices. As a result, I developed a passion for providing parent training and support in my work. I know how challenging it is to balance multiple life demands and enjoy helping parents learn new skills and strategies that create a more peaceful family life.

I hope to be able to help you, your child and your family. If you are interested in my services please call or email me and we can decide together if we are a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you.
